Centre for the Conservation of Nature

News

The first house on the property has been built. This is a moment I have been really looking forward to. This, together with the extension of the power lines (which unfortunately is still "being processed") will allow me to live on the property and do lots of the development myself, like planting trees and flowering bushes, make trails, construct a butterfly garden and start with an inventory of all animal- and plant species on the property.

The bamboo we planted on the various slopes to prevent erosion and landslides, has started to grow and will be fully developed during the next rainy season.

At the moment, we are busy making an internal road on the property to have access to the next building site where the educational centre will be constructed. The permissions for this building are at the municipality at the moment and will be approved within the next 3 weeks.

As said before, by letting the plants on the terrain run wild, it has become more appealing to local wildlife. Recently, not only the first group of capuchin monkeys has been spotted on the project site, also the endangered squirrel monkey … an impressive development, one we hope to continue!!

The web page will be renewed and expanded with pictures of the project's progress in the next couple of months. In short; a lot is being done to finally start realizing CECONA! We would like to thank everyone for their support so far and we hope to able to bring you more good news soon!

Cecona short

Cecona (Centre for the Conservation of Nature) is a wildlife conservation project in Costa Rica. Situated at the pacific coast, nearby the popular national park Manuel Antonio, we try to contribute to local wildlife conservation by means of a wildlife rescue centre, environmental education, scientific research and breeding programs for endangered species.
Currently we are in the start-up phase and hope to commence construction at the end of 2011 in order to open our doors to the public in 2012.
