Volunteers
It is clear that in addition to all the work done by the local staff, help from volunteers is indispensable. Everyone who is 18 years or older and interested in the protection of the natural environment can apply for a volunteer job and help realize the goals of the project.
Daily work will consist of cleaning the cages, feeding the animals, work in the butterfly garden and the natural museum and guiding the tours.
Also weekly jobs need to be done, like maintenance of the trails and roads and enriching of the cages (fresh branches and leaves, toys, etc.).
Furthermore there will be a lot of different other jobs to do, like building cages, helping the vet catching wild wounded or sick animals, taking care of very young animals at the nursery or the very exciting release of rehabilitated animals.
Depending on education and personal interests, volunteers can also assist in ongoing scientific research, collection of behavioural data of animals in the rehabilitation process, writing of the newsletters, maintenance of the website or join the environmental educator in his/her visits to local primary schools.
Minimum stay for volunteers is one month. For the provision of accommodation and meals a contribution of $125 per week is charged. For more information you can contact Martijn Palmen, biologist and initiator of the project, at info@cecona.org.
